Description
The Hollies is a vicarage, now a residential home, dating from 1790, with later 19th-century additions. It was built by Thomas Kipling, the Vicar of Holme-Upon-Spalding-Moor. The central range is built of yellow brick, while the wings are of brown brick, all under a pantile roof. The house is two storeys high, with a three-bay central range flanked by slightly projecting two-bay wings. The central bay projects slightly and contains a 20th-century glazed PVC door set within a plain doorcase with a canopy supported by fluted consoles. All windows are modern PVC casements, inserted into the original openings. Those in the central range are set beneath slightly cambered arches, while those in the wings are set beneath gauged brick flat arches. An eaves band runs across the building, and there is a high parapet with a blind central panel to the central range and blind oculi to the gable ends of the wings. The roof has ridge stacks.
Inside, the drawing room features a fluted coved cornice with decorative paterae, as well as an original fireplace with carved swag decorations. An open-string staircase has two column-on-vase balusters per tread, and a ramped handrail. Numerous original six-fielded-panel doors remain. A brick elliptical-arched fireplace is in the former kitchen, now a bedroom.
