Description

Gray’s Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of reddish brick, rendered and whitewashed to the front, and has a pantile roof. The original plan comprised three rooms arranged around a central lobby, with an outshut added to the rear on the left side. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays. The original entrance was positioned off-centre, under an elliptical arch between the first and second bays, and is now blocked. A plank door provides access to the left side of the building. On the ground floor, two left-hand bays feature 16-pane Yorkshire sash windows set within elliptical arches; the remaining bay has a casement window. The first floor has two 12-pane Yorkshire sash windows, and a casement window to the right, all of which interrupt a dentil eaves band. Brick copings are present along the roofline. The building has ridge and end stacks. Inside, partially blocked inglenook fireplaces with chamfered bressumer beams are found in two rooms, alongside chamfered plank doors.
