Description

The railway station, built in 1864, was designed by Rawlins Gould for the Hull and Hornsea Railway Company. It is constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings and features a slate roof. The building is single storey with a total of 15 bays arranged in a 5:5:5 configuration, including a lower 5-bay extension on the left side.

The main elevation is symmetrical, with the central 5 bays projecting forward to create a loggia. The loggia is supported by a chamfered plinth and rusticated quoins, and it features five round-headed arches with moulded bases, imposts, and projecting key blocks, all adorned with sandstone roundels in the spandrels. The central opening is flanked by rusticated pilasters that support a low pediment.

A moulded cornice runs along the top, and the central double-leaf door has six panels and is topped by a fanlight with radial glazing in a round-headed opening, which also has a projecting key block. The windows to the right and left, now blocked, are rounded-headed and sit on sills with brackets in blank round-headed arches, featuring moulded imposts, projecting key blocks, and roundels in the spandrels.

The building has moulded eaves cornices, end and axial stacks, and hipped roofs. The left wing mirrors the main structure's style, with a central elliptical-headed opening (now blocked) flanked by two round-headed blank arches on either side, also featuring a moulded eaves cornice and a hipped roof.
