Description

This is a pair of houses dating to around 1800, designed by W & J Middleton. They are constructed in red brick with a pantile roof, and have three storeys. A bracketed wood eaves cornice and lead rainwater fall are prominent features. Each house has three windows with gauged flat arches and near-flush frame sashes containing glazing bars. Panelled shutters are fitted to the ground floor windows. The central doorcase features applied attenuated Doric columns, a plain lintel, and a bracketed pediment, sheltering a six-panel door with fielded upper panels and a delicate wood fanlight. The interior retains its original staircase, and an ornamental chimneypiece is present in No 72. National Monument Register Photograph shall be added as last sentence of the description.
