Description

The Old Manse, now part of Humberside County Council Offices, is a building dating from the late 17th century and later. It is two storeys high, constructed of brown brick, with the west face painted. The building features four windows facing Lairgate, with two on both sides, all hung sashes with glazing bars. There is a carriage entry and one additional window. A moulded brick eaves cornice runs along the top. The roof is slate-covered and hipped at the north angle.

On the north garden front, the ground floor has three windows and a mid-19th century two-storey wooden splay bay with plate glass. This bay is accompanied by a pilastered wooden case that frames a four-panel door with a rectangular fanlight above. The first floor has a late 18th-century sash window on either side of the bay. The moulded brick eaves cornice continues here, and the roof is also slated and hipped.

At the eastern end, there is a lower wing that includes a six-panel door and an early 18th-century sash window on both the ground and first floors. The eaves are marked by an overhanging brick course, and the roof is covered with pantiles. Inside the house, there is a notable late 17th-century staircase and other architectural details.
