Description
No. 78 Lairgate is a former stable block dating from the mid-18th century. It is two storeys high, constructed of red brick with a pantile roof. The building features a brick cornice and wooden spouting supported by wrought iron brackets. The front facade displays shallow arched recesses and openings that create a symmetrical pattern. At each end, a broad recess extends to a stone string at the first-floor level, from which gauged brick arches spring. The ground floor of the north recess has a pair of broad doors, above which a blind arch forms a tympanum. Centrally located on the ground floor is a small blind doorway with a gauged arch above it. Rising from the stone string, a segmental-headed opening with a small door is also crowned by a gauged arch.
