Description

No. 65, now part of Humberside County Council Offices, is a building with origins in the late 17th century and late 18th century. It was constructed in two distinct sections. The southern part, dating from the late 18th century, is two storeys tall and built of painted brick, topped with a slate roof featuring three gabled dormers. It has wide projecting eaves and iron spouting. The ground floor, arranged from north to south, includes a six-panel door, two windows, and a main doorway framed by a wooden case with Doric pilasters. Above this is an entablature with a dentil cornice that is broken over the pilasters and an open pediment, leading to a six-panel door with an arched fanlight. There is a slight projection beyond the door with two windows, including a triple window above the doorway and a centrally placed window above the two below. A string course runs only along the portion that is broken forward.

The older section of the building, located to the north, slightly projects forward and is believed to have been built in the late 17th century, possibly as part of the Old Manse. This section is also two storeys high and constructed of painted brick. The ground floor features broad doors leading to a yard and one window, while the first floor has two windows. It has a moulded brick eaves cornice and a pantile roof. All the windows in this part are late 18th century sashes.
