Description
The gates, gate piers, and flanking walls to Anlaby House are early 19th century features designed in a semicircular plan. The gates are made of cast iron, reinforced with 20th-century steel, while the gate piers are constructed from stone and the flanking walls are built of white brick with stone dressings. The gates have been significantly altered and feature a central foliate panel flanked by railings beneath a round arcading. The gate piers are square and rest on a moulded plinth, with central round sunk panels adorned with rosettes on the main faces, and oblong panels partially embracing them above and below. The friezes include masks and foliage beneath cornices decorated with egg and dart motifs, which originally supported finials that have since been removed. The flanking walls have a low plinth leading to a coped wall that ends in piers topped with pyramidal caps. Volute brackets, embellished with fruit and foliage, support the gate piers from the coping of the flanking walls. These structures are included for their group value.
