Description

Field House is a pair of adjacent houses dating from the 18th century, located on Victoria Road. They are two storeys tall and constructed of brick, featuring hipped roofs made of grey and red pantiles. The house on the left has a fluted Doric portico with a plain entablature, which was filled in during the mid-19th century to create a porch. This house also has two mid-19th century bay windows. The house on the right is more distinctive and faces the opposite direction. Its front elevation includes one window and a large two-storey projecting bow that encloses a chalybeate spring, with baths still located beneath the floorboards. The entrance features a Tuscan portico. The rear elevation has one window and a large two-storey bow with three windows on each storey. Inside, there are moulded doorways attributed to John Carr of York and contemporary fireplaces that were imported.
