Description

The Cemetery Chapels, built around 1879 and designed by architect Alfred Smith of Nottingham, are a pair of chapels constructed from ashlar stone with Welsh slate roofs. They feature roundel windows in the gables above decorated windows. The chapels are connected by triple arcades that have carved capitals and are lined with polychrome brickwork. A central tower with a spire is topped by an octagonal lantern. There is a plaque displaying the date and a carved angel, along with carved angels on the ribs of the tower and numerous gargoyles adorning the exterior. The Cemetery Lodge, Cemetery Chapels, and the wall surrounding the cemetery form a cohesive group.
