Description
1-7 Water Street is a terrace of four houses built in 1912 by William and Segar Owen as part of the Port Sunlight model village. The houses are constructed with a pebble-dashed exterior, brick dressings, some weather-boarding, and a tile roof, with a brick base course defining the ground level. The fenestration primarily comprises double-chamfered mullioned windows with drip moulds and leaded glazing. The end bays project forward and are topped with gables, while the second bay projects under a weather-boarded gable. The ground floor features five-light windows in the end bays, with three and four-light windows flanking the central entrance. The second bay has an eight-light, two-storey canted bay window with a weather-boarded first floor and a timber canopy. The first floor has a pattern of four, two, three, two, three, and four-light mullioned windows. The entrances are segmental-headed with brick surrounds, incorporating plank doors with three leaded lights. The chimneys are prominent, including a lateral stack to the right of the second bay with a diagonal shaft, a cross-axial stack, a valley stack between the first and second bays, and a lateral stack with diagonal shafts on the right return.
