Description
The main western gates to Flaybrick Hill Cemetery, located adjacent to the cemetery chapels, were built in 1864 by Lucy and Littler. These gates feature stone gate piers and cast-iron gates. The gate piers, which are part of a flanking wall, have a chamfered plinth and raking coping. They are polygonal in shape with stepped tapered caps topped with finials. The piers also display incised quatrefoil decoration that includes the date and the initials BIC, representing the Birkenhead Improvement Commissioners. The cast-iron gates are designed with twisted shafts, arrow heads, and scroll-work.
