Description
The Old School House, formerly known as the Former Thurstaston School, is a former school building dating from around 1858 to 1859. It is constructed of snecked stone and originally had a slate roof, which was stripped in 1985. The building is one storey high with four bays, while the first bay is two storeys and projects under a gable that features a porch and a bell cote to the right.
The windows, which were possibly originally mullioned, currently lack frames due to restoration work. The building has weathered buttresses, and the first bay includes a ground floor window with a label mould that features foliate decoration and the letter "N." Above, there is a first-floor window with two segmental-pointed lights and a mullion. The porch has a buttress on the return side, and its segmental-pointed entrance is adorned with a hood mould that has lozenge stops. The door features elaborate hinges and a lozenge above it. The bell cote is topped with a corbelled cornice, and there are cross-axial stacks at the gable end and first bay.
