Description
The Wallasey Water Tower is a water tower, now used as a garage, that dates back to 1860, as indicated above its entrance. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a square plan, rising five storeys in the Romanesque style. The base features battered rock-faced stone with a decorative band above. The round-headed entrance has stepped reveals and an arch, flanked by two round-headed lights on the returns. Clasping pilasters are present at the angles. The tower features giant arches with paired round-headed windows that have colonnettes with scalloped capitals and archivolts; the topmost pair includes a tympanum with a blind roundel. A Lombard frieze runs above the giant arch, topped by a cornice and a machicolated parapet. All sides of the tower are similar in design.
