Description
The Egremont War Memorial is a structure commemorating the First World War, erected in 1921. It is made of rough-hewn Cornish granite and features a wheel-head cross with a longsword, blade down, carved in shallow relief on the front, north-east face. The sword has a trefoil design at the pommel and at each end of the cross guard. The cross shaft rises from a tapering, four-sided plinth, which is set on a square, single-step base.
The dedication is inscribed in leaded lettering on a smoothed panel on the front face of the plinth. It reads: "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF EGREMONT WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS MCMXXI GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS."
