Description

A terrace of seven houses at 9-21 Water Street, Bebington, was built in 1912 by William and Segar Owen as part of the Port Sunlight estate. The houses have a pebble-dashed exterior above a brick base to sill level, and a tile roof. The terrace is two storeys high and has thirteen bays, with the first four bays projecting forward. The first bay further projects under a jettied, gabled first floor. The twelfth bay projects under a gable, and the thirteenth bay projects even further under an asymmetrical gable. A timber band runs over the ground floor of bays two to four, while bays five to eleven have tile canopies. The ground floor windows are largely double-chamfered-mullioned with brick mullions and leaded glazing. Canted bay windows with five lights are found in the first, sixth, and seventh bays. Bay four features a canted angle with a four-light window, and bay two has a three-light window, while bay five has a four-light window. The end bays have leaded casements of three lights, and the first floor has leaded casements of one, two, three, and four lights, with the west bay containing a five-light window. The entrances have brick surrounds and leaded lights, with the entrance to the thirteenth bay featuring a porch with a cat-slide roof. A lateral stack with a fire window is found in the fifth bay, and a stack is present on the return of the twelfth bay. Return and rear stacks are also visible.
