Church. 1857. W. and J. Hay; apse of 1883-4 by J. Gandy. Rubble walling of industrial waste with sandstone dressings, slate roof. Nave with south porch, transepts and apse. Nave of 3 bays has windows of 2 lights between weathered buttresses. West end has angle buttresses, 3-light window with simple, intersecting tracery, probably altered and bell cote. Gabled south porch has arch with no capitals. North transept has 4-light segmental pointed window, that to south has 3-light window as west end. Canted apse has 3 windows of 2 lights and north organ loft. Interior has deep west gallery; roofs with arch-braced collar trusses with flying arches at crossing. The church is one of 2 buildings in St. Helens to be built entirely of industrial waste, probably from local chemical works (q.v. Welsh Chapel, Sutton Road).
