Description
The former coach house to Number 13 Beach Lawn is a building that has been converted into workshops. It dates from the late 19th century and has undergone some alterations. The structure is built of red and yellow brick in English bond, with some blue brick courses, and features a hipped slate roof adorned with red ridge tiles and metal terminal finials. Designed in a Gothic style, the building has a rectangular plan that runs parallel to the street, with a carriage entry located in the center.
The coach house stands two storeys tall, plus a square one-stage tower above the carriage entry. The façade is arranged with a 3:1:3 window pattern, supported by brick corbel tables. The center features a large segmental-headed archway with red sandstone springing blocks and a moulded brick head, topped with a foliated terracotta keystone. A canted stone oriel rises into the tower, which is finished with a brick corbel table and a steep pyramidal roof that includes a steep canopied dormer at the front.
To the left of the central archway, there is a three-window range that includes a tall segmental-headed doorway in the middle, a tall half-dormer above with a corbelled head and half-hipped roof, along with barge-boarding and an apex finial. This range has two windows on each floor, with the left ground floor window altered, the right being segmental-headed, and the upper windows featuring shouldered stone lintels. The right range also has a tall segmental-headed doorway at the right-hand end, with first-floor windows similar to those on the left, except for the left window which has been replaced with a modern oblong window. The rear and interior of the building were not inspected, but it appears to be the front range of a courtyard block, with other ranges showing more significant alterations.
