Description
The Juvenile Court, originally built as police courts in 1890 by C.J. Anderson, is a two-storey stone building with a slate roof located on the east side of Oriel Road in Bootle. It features ten bays, with the third bay projecting to form a short tower. The ground floor is characterized by channelled rustication, while the first floor has a sill course and an Ionic balustrade, topped by a parapet with finials. Most windows are sashed, with paired sashes on the ground floor. The first floor windows are adorned with friezes and cornices, and the fifth and sixth bays feature pediments. The entrance is elliptical-headed and has paired consoles supporting an open pediment that displays the royal arms; above this are paired round-headed windows. The tower includes paired windows with a roundel in the tympanum, a top frieze, a pierced parapet, and pinnacles. It has a recessed louvred top with a tented pavilion roof clad in lead. The ninth bay contains paired first floor windows with a pedimented tympanum featuring the Bootle arms and mermaid supporters. There are three stacks with moulded caps. The front low wall is constructed with granite piers that hold iron lamp standards, 20th-century lamps, and iron bollards shaped like lighthouses supporting chains.
