Description
A pair of houses, likely dating from the 1840s and subsequently altered, now used as flats. The exterior is white-painted render on brick with black painted dressings, and a slate roof. The building follows a double-depth plan, with each house being double-fronted.
The architectural style is symmetrical, aside from a slight projection of the third bay in each house. The building stands three stories high with three windows on each front elevation. It includes a plinth, a first-floor sill band, a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course.
Each house features a tall doorway within a pilastered architrave, incorporating a plain frieze and moulded cornice, with 20th-century glazed double doors. Above each doorway is a tall window set within a pedimented architrave. This is flanked by two-story canted bay windows, both with cornices to both levels. The canted bay window at number 49 has blind balustrading to the aprons of the first-floor windows. All windows are 20th-century top-hung casements with simulated glazing bars – 15 panes to the main lights. The second floor features smaller nine-pane windows. The roof has two cut-down chimneys on the front slope and a flat-roofed dormer on number 49.
The interior has not been inspected. The building forms a group with numbers 45A to 48 to the right.
