Description
The gatekeeper’s lodge, built in 1856 and designed by Jesse Hartley, stands at the entrance to Wapping Dock. It is constructed from granite rubble with battered sides, a chamfered plinth, and a corbelled cornice. The lodge has a short, oval spire topped with a cornice and chimney. Architectural features include a window, an entrance, a gate slot, and a blind arrow slit motif. Originally, it was accompanied by flanking gate piers.
