Description
Pogue Mahone is a public house located at 77 Seel Street, Liverpool. It dates from the very early 19th century, before 1805, and underwent alterations later in the 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco and features three storeys and four bays. A late 19th-century pub front has been inserted. The exterior includes rusticated quoins and windows with decorated architraves. The first-floor windows have consoled pediments, with the two center ones being segmental. There are friezes adorned with laurel decoration. On the return side, there is a ground floor window with an eared architrave and keystone. The building is topped with a modillioned cornice. Notably, it is the birthplace of W.H. Duncan, who was the first Medical Officer of Health in the country, appointed in 1848.
