Description

Nos. 6 to 10 Dale Street is an office building constructed in 1839 by Samuel Rowland for the Royal Bank. The building is made of stone and features three storeys with nine bays, where the 1st, 3rd to 7th, and 9th bays project forward. The ground floor is rusticated and has 20th-century shop fronts. There are entrances on Sweeting Street and Queen Avenue, with iron tympana; the left entrance is contemporary and has the lettering "SWEETING STREET," while the right entrance, dating from the 1880s, features the lettering "QUEEN INSURANCE BUILDINGS." The 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th bays have tripartite windows adorned with pilasters and entablatures on the first and second floors. A giant Corinthian portico is attached to the central five bays, featuring a wreathed frieze, while the outer bays also have similar pilasters. The building is topped with a balustraded parapet, and the royal arms are displayed in the center.
