Description

The Liverpool and London and Globe Building is an office building constructed between 1855 and 1857 by architects C. R. and F. P. Cockerell. An attic storey was added in the 1920s. The building features ashlar stonework with rusticated quoins and a slate roof. It has three storeys, a basement, and attics, arranged in seven bays, with fifteen bay returns to High Street and Exchange Street East.

The central doorway is pedimented and flanked by red granite Doric columns, all set within a coved round arch adorned with a cornice and swags. The ground floor showcases segmental arched windows, while the second floor is recessed behind a Corinthian colonnade, featuring round-headed windows with iron balconies; the end windows are topped with pediments on brackets. There are flat bands separating the storeys, and small rectangular attic windows sit above the cornice of the second floor, which is itself topped with a main cornice that has modillions. The building has a mansard roof with dormers that have segmental pediments, and corner stacks with cornices. The facades on the east and west sides are similar in design.
