Description

A terrace of thirteen houses on Canning Street, dating from the 1830s. The buildings are constructed of brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. They are three storeys high with a basement, each house having three bays. The last three bays form the return of number 165 Bedford Street South. Architectural details include a lintel band at basement level, a sill band to the first floor, a top frieze cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and have wedge lintels. The entrances feature Ionic porches and four-panel doors, some of which are glazed. Decorative iron railings are present to the areas and steps. Nos. 54, 56 and 62 to 74 each have one blind window on the second floor. Number 165 Bedford Street South is of five bays, with the central bay projecting forward; this bay features an Ionic porch, and the window above has an architrave, frieze and consoled cornice. Some windows are blind, while others have casements.
