Description
This is a block of flats built in the mid-1930s, designed by Sir L. Keay. The building is constructed of brick with concrete dressings and has a tiled roof. It features a semi-circular shape with a recessed connecting range and stands five storeys tall. The main block consists of 61 bays, with the end bays recessed and 9-bay returns. The recessed range has 19 bays and low connecting porches supported by round columns with banded capitals. There are sill and lintel bands, with additional banding between the windows, and a top parapet that conceals the roof. The central part of the main block has a large round archway, while the recessed end bays feature parabolic archways. The recessed range includes a central round archway with three balconies above it. The courtyard is designed with continuous balconies and stair bays, which have round balconies on round piers. These inter-war flats reflect a modernist style, influenced by Quarry Hill in Leeds.
