Description
No. 4 Slater Street is a shop building dating from the late 18th century, featuring a later shop front. It is constructed of brick with stucco and stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and presents a symmetrical composition of five bays, with the lower left bay being blind. The first floor has four windows, with none in the central bay. The windows, which have wedge lintels, are sashed with glazing bars, except for the ground floor and the first floor end bay, which has a casement window. The ground floor is stuccoed and features six round-arched openings; the second, third, and fifth bays contain windows, the fourth bay has a half-glazed door, and the end bays are blind. The arches are richly ornamented, with moulded architraves and end pilasters that have wreathed scrolls, supporting panelled end blocks that in turn support a cornice with a Greek key pattern over the entire ground floor.
