Description

This is a row of charity cottages, built in 1863 according to inscriptions above the doorways of numbers 99 and 101. The cottages were commissioned by J. P. and A. M. Heywood. They are constructed from red sandstone with slate roofs. The row has two storeys and five bays, with the end bays projecting and set under gables. The windows have two or three lights, featuring double-chamfered mullions. The central entrances are paired and have segmental pointed heads with a label mould raised over a cartouche displaying an inscription. The doors include elaborate hinges, and the returns feature hoodmoulds. A brick extension is to the rear, and there are two stone chimney stacks.
