Description
The entrance to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at the head of Stanley Dock is a structure dating from around 1848, designed by J. Hartley. It features retaining walls made of granite rubble, which is arranged in both large and small blocks to create a fair face. The bridge associated with this entrance has concave-sided parapets that match the retaining walls. This structure serves to connect the dock with the lock on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
