Description

The gates to Docks 24, 27, 28, and Princes Dock were built in 1821 and designed by John Foster, who served as Dock Engineer from 1799 to 1824. The gate piers are made of granite rubble and feature splayed bases, rounded angles, and Doric caps. The pier on the left is larger and includes a window and a rear entrance that served as a gatekeeper's hut. The pier on the right has a groove for the original gate.
