Description
The Liverpool Medical Institution is a medical building constructed between 1836 and 1837, designed by C. Rampling. It features a stone exterior with a curved facade facing Mount Pleasant and Hope Street, showcasing Greek revival architectural style. The building is one storey high and consists of 16 bays. It has channelled rustication, a flat pilastrade, an entablature, and a blocking course. The central seven bays are recessed and are framed by a hexastyle Ionic colonnade with unfluted columns. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, and there are recessed panels above, except for those in the centre. The entrance is architraved and has a consoled cornice. The end three bays are recessed and rise to two storeys. Iron railings are present around the recessed bays.
