Description

Woolton Manor, now a Nurses Home, is a hospital building of 1869, with additions of 1875, designed by Thomas Worthington in the Gothic Revival style. The building is constructed of red brick with blue brick and ashlar dressings, and has slate pitched and hipped roofs, tall decorated chimney stacks, and a decorated eaves cornice. The layout is an "E" plan, with three-storey side wings featuring bay windows, ground floor open arcades, and stone-coped gables above. The windows are predominantly plate glass sashes, some with pointed heads. A central section was added in 1875, featuring a two-storey design with a hipped roof and a three-storey light window within a five-bay arcade on the first floor, accentuated by angle buttresses. A terrace wall and steps connect the side wings. Lower ranges of outbuildings extend from the rear.
