Description
Rockbank is a house, now converted into flats, built in the 1860s. It is constructed from brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features four bays; the first bay is recessed and lower, while the end bay has a gable. It has a panelled fascia and large boards. The first bay includes two lancet windows on the ground floor and a canted oriel window flanked by decorative diapering with a hipped fishscale roof. The second, third, and fourth bays have a ground floor extension made of buff bricks, with a sill band and an entablature that supports an iron balcony, along with channelled rustication above the sill band.
The windows are tripartite sashes with colonnettes, surrounding a round-headed entrance that features a rusticated head and a masked key, along with a three-panel door flanked by stained glass lights. There is a later iron porch with a glazed lean-to roof and a central grilled gable. The first-floor windows have stone lintels adorned with dog-tooth ornamentation on the soffits. The outer windows are tripartite, with the one on the right having a central segmental head and a diapered tympanum, sashed with colonnettes, and a central casement with a painted glass light. To the right return, there is a canted two-storey bay. The building is topped with three tall stacks and is noted for being a very well-preserved embellished villa.
