Description

The building comprises a former Roman Catholic chapel and attached priest's house, dating from 1813. Originally constructed of brick, the chapel is now rendered, with a slate roof. The structure is a rectangular range under a single hipped roof, with the chapel occupying the northern two-thirds. A datestone above the north entrance, now concealed by an unsympathetic brick porch, reads "I have loved, O Lord, the beauty of thy house, and the place where they Glory dwelleth. AD 1813," and is flanked by two semicircular windows. The chapel has three tall, round-headed windows of two lights, each featuring wooden Y-tracery. The interior is now partitioned. The two-storey priest's house was originally symmetrical with three bays and sash windows, but is now partially obscured by a ground floor lean-to extending across the entrance and one window. Despite alterations, the building retains the form of a pre-Emancipation chapel.
