Description

These are a group of terraced houses at 1-9 Pharos Street, built shortly after 1845, a date confirmed by their absence on the 1845 Ordnance Survey map. They are included on the heritage list primarily for their town-planning significance, as they form part of a circular arrangement around the Upper Lighthouse. The houses are constructed of red brick with a pitched slate roof. They are two storeys high and feature a band running along the facade. The plan is quadrant-shaped, directed towards the lighthouse. The front facing the circus has five ranges of sash windows; the front facing Pharos Street also has five. The doors of numbers 1, 5, 7, and 9 are set within stucco frames of Tuscan design, incorporating blocking courses.
