Description
The farmhouse at Becconsall Hall Farm dates from the mid to later 18th century, although it incorporates earlier fabric from the 17th century. It is constructed of handmade brick with stone quoins, now all coated in white cement. The roof is slate-covered. The building has a double-depth, two-bay plan with a small porch at the rear.
It is two storeys high, almost symmetrical in appearance, with gable end chimneys. The front doorway is slightly left of centre and is protected by a shallow, wooden and glazed porch with a hipped mono-pitch roof. There are two large square windows on each floor, all with segmental heads, small panes, and central casements. A large eight-flue chimney is located at the left gable, and a two-flue chimney is situated in front of the ridge at the right gable, with an additional chimney at the rear.
The left gable’s lower wall contains a reset datestone with raised lettering in an early 17th-century style, reading "JOHN: AND: LVCY MOLYNEVX: BVILT: THIS: HOVSE: ANNO (?)”.
The rear of the building has smaller segmental-headed windows, including a stairwell window, partially obscured by an added upper storey to the formerly single-storey gabled porch, which is dated 1667 near the original apex.
Inside, reused quarter-round moulded beams are present in the front rooms and the rear left room. Original batten-and-board doors with wooden latches remain, along with a dog-legged staircase featuring stick balusters.
