Description

The South Ribble Squash Club and Parish Rooms is a school building constructed in 1835, which has since been enlarged and significantly altered internally, now serving as a squash club with a rear extension. It is built from tooled pink sandstone blocks and features a slate roof with a gable chimney that has four octagonal flues. The structure is a rectangular range of six bays, with later extensions added to the front of the first four bays and at the right end.

Designed in the Perpendicular style, the building is two storeys high and includes a moulded plinth, buttresses, and bands at two levels. It has a hollow moulded eaves cornice and gable copings. The windows are double-chamfered stone mullioned, each with two cinquefoil lights and hollow spandrels.

At the centre of the façade is a two-storey gabled porch that is two bays wide, featuring two doorways linked by a single hoodmould, with arches above and glazed spandrels. Above the doorways are two blank shields, and at the first floor level, there are two 2-light windows, along with a single-light window in the gable topped by an octagonal chimney. To the left of the porch is an addition that runs parallel to the main range and extends beyond it. The right end has a shallower and lower two-bay extension, which includes a flat-roofed salient in the angle and a two-storey canted bay at the gable. This building serves as a relatively large and elaborate National School, located near the Church of St. Leonard.
