Description

The Garden Pavilions and connecting wall, built around 1700, are a pair of garden pavilions made of sandstone ashlar with lead roofs. Each pavilion has a square plan and features chamfered quoins, a moulded cornice with modillions and egg and dart decoration, and a concave-sided pyramid roof topped by the Bayley eagle. The front walls of the pavilions have a door architrave flanked by narrow architraves with false keystones, leading to sashed windows with glazing bars. Above the windows are blank raised panels. The door architrave is adorned with a grotesque face carved on the lintel, with an urn and festoon above it. The other walls consist of two bays, each with window architraves and blank panels above. The pavilions are connected by a low brick wall with stone coping, wooden railings, and fluted stone posts topped with acorn and pine cone finials.
