Description
Pillings is a house built in 1722, constructed from squared rubble with sandstone dressings and a modern imitation stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features three bays, with projecting quoins and a string course. The windows are mullioned and transomed, showcasing inner cyma moulding and outer architraves. The outer bays have six lights each, while the middle bay has eight lights. The door, located between the first and second bays, is framed by an architrave with a pulvinated frieze and a moulded pediment supported by console brackets decorated with acanthus leaves. Above the door is a plaque on the first floor, bordered with acanthus leaves, inscribed 'ATA 1722'. A chimney is positioned to the left of the door, and the gable copings are present. The left-hand (west) gable features a door with a chamfered surround. At the rear, there are double-chamfered mullioned windows with hoods and a cross stair window. Inside, the middle room contains a wide moulded fireplace with a segmental arch and moulded imposts, and a bread oven is set into its rear corner. Additionally, there is a doorway beside the fireplace, towards the front, with a moulded segmental stone head.
