Description

The Cross Base, likely of medieval origin, is made of sandstone and is located adjoining the south-east side of New Bridge in Slaidburn. It has a rectangular plan with a rectangular socket. It is believed to be the base of the village cross that once stood near the stocks opposite the Hark to Bounty Inn, as noted in Alice Peel's "A Short History of the Parish of Slaidburn" published in 1922.
