Description
The presbytery attached to the Church of St Augustine was built around 1840 and enlarged around 1900. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and features a set-back link to the church on the left side. It stands three storeys tall and has three symmetrical bays, with a pedimented center that slightly projects forward. Originally, it had only two bays, with the right portion added later. The exterior includes a plinth, quoins at the ground floor, and a string course above, along with sill-bands on both upper floors, a dentilled cornice, and a pediment.
The center of the building has tripartite sashed windows with glazing bars on the ground and first floors, while all other windows are 12-pane sashes. The first-floor windows have moulded architraves with cornices, and those on the ground and second floors feature wedge lintels. The hipped roof is adorned with various chimneys. The entrance is located in the set-back two-storey link to the left, which includes a doorway with a pedimented architrave and 4-pane sashed side windows with moulded architraves, a string course, a large rectangular stone panel above, a cornice, and a high parapet. There are also two single-storey service wings on the west side. The rear of the building features a pedimented two-storey rectangular bay. The interior has been altered.
