Description
Eaves Cottage Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 18th century, with an early 19th-century addition. The building is constructed of brick, partly stuccoed and painted white, with a slate roof that has two levels. The original section, located to the west, features an L-shaped end-baffle-entry plan with two bays, the first bay being double depth. It stands two storeys high and has a first-floor band. The south-facing front has a door at the right-hand end, which is sheltered by a modern lean-to porch, and two three-light casement windows on each floor. The rear of the building has two similar windows on the first floor, along with a 19th-century 20-pane sash window and a two-light casement window on the ground floor. There are gable chimneys on the roof.
The addition, which is also two storeys, has a hipped roof. The front facing east features a round-headed doorway with a stone surround that includes imposts and a moulded semicircular head, along with a fanlight that has radiating glazing bars. To the right of the doorway, there is a 16-pane sash window, with two additional sash windows above, one on each floor of the north side wall.
Inside the older part of the farmhouse, there is an inglenook with a stop-chamfered bressummer, a large heck, and a salt cupboard that has a carved door depicting a stylised tree with fruit, along with a drawer below. The interior also features a collar roof truss with angle struts.
