Description
This is a row of six small townhouses located at 22-27 St Ignatius Square, built in the mid-19th century and altered over time. The houses are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, except for Nos 24 and 25, which have been rebuilt in modern brick. They feature sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, with coupled back extensions.
The buildings are two storeys high with cellars, and each house has one window on the first floor. Architectural details include a stone plinth, a first-floor sill-band, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice. Each pair of houses has coupled doorways with moulded architraves and cornices supported by consoles with guttae. Between Nos 25 and 26, there is a through-lobby doorway in a matching style. All houses have one window on each floor, featuring raised sills and wedge lintels with keystones. The windows at No. 22 are sashed, while the others have altered glazing. The row has ridge chimneys, but the rear and interiors were not inspected.
