Description

A row of four townhouses, now offices, was built in the early to mid-1840s and subsequently altered. The buildings are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. They follow a double-depth plan, with each house having a single facade and a rear extension. Numbers 13 and 14 were originally designed as halls connected as a pair. The houses are two storeys high, with cellars, and each has two bays. A sill band, shallow frieze, and moulded cornice run continuously with the adjacent building at number 11, with a slight step down at number 15. Numbers 13 and 14 feature coupled doorways incorporating three Tuscan semi-columns, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with deep jambs, imposts, recessed panelled doors, and rectangular overlights. Numbers 12 and 15 have matching doorways at each end. Number 14 includes a small lobby doorway to the right with a rectangular lintel, and number 15 has a similar lobby doorway adjoining it, featuring a raised convex surround. A further similar doorway is located between numbers 12 and 13. Cellar windows with wedge lintels, protected by gratings, are present at numbers 12 and 15. The ground floor windows at numbers 13 and 14 have raised sills and wedge lintels, with one sash window at number 13 lacking glazing bars, but altered at number 14. The first-floor windows at numbers 13 to 15 are sashes without glazing bars, while number 12 has top-hung casements, all with wedge lintels. The building has coupled ridge chimney stacks.
