Description

This is a large town house, likely dating to circa 1870-80, located on Latham Street, Preston. The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It follows a deep double-depth, double-fronted plan and extends over three storeys and consists of three bays, with the central bay being narrower and projecting slightly. The facade is symmetrical and features a plinth, a first-floor sill band, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course. The central bay has a wide, round-headed doorway with a moulded architrave, including set-in shafts with carved, foliated capitals. From the capitals springs a panelled inner arch, interrupted in the centre by an elongated keystone with incised decoration. Above the doorway, at the first floor, is a tall sash window with an architrave including sunk-panelled jambs and a cornice on consoles. The wider outer bays have tall, triple round-headed sash windows at ground floor, set within arcaded architraves featuring foliated consoles to the moulded heads, each with keystones including sunk panels. The first-floor windows in the outer bays are large, single, segmental-headed sash windows with raised, moulded architraves. The second floor has three short, segmental-headed, four-pane sashes with raised sills and sill blocks. Gable chimneys are present. The rear of the property and its interior have not been inspected. The building shares stylistic similarities with number 14 Latham Street.
