Description

Number 1 Fold and numbers 2, 4, and 6 Holt Square are a house, later divided into four cottages, dating from around 1600. The building is constructed of stone with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high. Number 6 Holt Square has a six-light stone mullion window with semi-circular heads; it was originally a seven-light window. A dripstone extends over an 18th-century doorway to the right. Above this are a three-light and a four-light window. Number 4 Holt Square has a four-light stone mullion window with semi-circular heads (originally seven lights), with moulded and returned dripstone extending over the 18th-century doorways of numbers 4 and 2. A four-light window sits above. Number 2 Holt Square has one sash window and a two-light mullion window on the first floor (previously three-light), alongside an 18th-century casement window to the right. Number 1 Fold has a 17th-century doorway with a chamfered, four-centred arch, now blocked to form a two-light window. A three-light stone mullion window with semi-circular heads and a moulded dripstone is to the right. Above are a two-light and a four-light stone mullion window. Number 1 Fold backs onto Number 2 Holt Square. It has a gable front with a large sash window, a modern single-light window, and a 17th-century four-light window above. An 18th-century doorway is situated to the left. According to reports by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, most interior fittings have been lost or are obscured, although an early 18th-century bolection moulded fireplace remains.
