Description
No. 14 Penny Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It was built around 1785 and underwent alterations around 1900 and in the 20th century. The building is made of painted sandstone ashlar in narrow courses and has a slate roof. It features a double-depth plan with the entrance and a rear extension located to the right. The structure has three storeys and a single wide bay, with chamfered quoins. On the right side, there are traces of the original plinth and a ground-floor sill band. The ground floor has been modified with a fully glazed shop front set between timber pilasters from around 1900. The first and second floors have paired windows, with 20th-century joinery on the first floor and fixed frames with glazing bars on the second floor. The windows are offset to the right to accommodate a 7-feet entrance leading to the back of the property, as noted in the deeds from 1784.
