Description
No. 26 Market Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It was built around 1800 and has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and mid-20th century. The exterior features scored render with painted ashlar dressings and a hipped slate roof. The building stands on a corner site with three storeys, displaying two bays on the west side and three bays on the south side. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts beneath a cornice that is a remnant of a late 19th-century timber fascia. The corner of the building is accentuated with chamfered quoins. The windows are 20th-century casements with projecting sills and plain reveals. There is a chimney located on the ridge at the left of the west facade. This building holds a prominent position at the corner of the Market Square and is listed for its group value, despite the significant alterations it has undergone.
