Description
No. 65 Church Street is a house that has been converted into offices and a flat. It was built around 1780 and altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar with ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof and gable chimney stacks—one with a brick cap on the left and the other with a combination of brick and stone cap on the right. It has an L-plan layout, featuring a double-depth front block and a rear wing to the left. The structure stands three storeys above cellars, with a low plinth and an eaves cornice. The façade consists of three bays, with the entrance located in the left-hand bay. This entrance features three steps, pilaster jambs, an open pediment supported by fluted consoles, and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. The door has nine raised and fielded panels. The windows throughout the building have plain reveals and raised sills, with ground floor windows lacking glazing bars, while the first and second floor windows have 12 and 9 panes respectively. Inside, there is a dogleg open-string staircase with two stick balusters per tread and a ramped mahogany handrail.
