Description

The Newton Beck Culvert, built around 1797, is a culvert for Newton Beck designed by engineer John Rennie for the Lancaster Canal Company. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and features a circular tube of masonry approximately 1 meter in diameter and about 40 meters long, with a portal at each end. Above the arch ring, the structure is designed to resemble more significant bridges and aqueducts, featuring shallow pilasters that support a flat coping extending over curved abutments. The stream bed between these abutments is paved with setts.
